Responding to changing legislation in the state of Connecticut, growing need, and increasing applications for cannabis, NVCC is offering a new course in cannabis production this fall. The cannabis course is offered to Horticulture majors who are interested in learning and training in the new thriving field of hemp and cannabis production. This course teaches students all aspects of cannabis production, which include soils, plant biology, plant nutrition, pest management issues, and harvesting. This lecture-based course is a pilot offered in the Fall 2021 semester in an online format, using Blackboard for this academic year. Based on feedback it may be offered in subsequent semesters as needed.
Christopher J. Tuccio, Program Coordinator of Horticulture and Professor of Horticulture in NVCC’s STEM Division, commented on the new course offering. “As legislation throughout the country is changing, it is important to train new horticulturists on the techniques and science of cannabis cultivation. I am very happy to be adding new, diverse course offerings such as this to our Horticulture curriculum at NVCC. This is a burgeoning field within the industry. Students would do well to learn about the future prospects of this field.”
