NVCC Hosted Annual Manufacturing/STEM Expo in Collaboration with Waterbury Public Schools and Chamber of Commerce

Naugatuck Valley Community College hosted the annual STEM/Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Expo 2019 on Friday, November 1. With support from the Waterbury Board of Education, more than 500 hundred middle and high school students visited the event at the College to directly engage with local manufacturers and learn about job and career opportunities from area leaders in manufacturing.

Community College Humanities Association Honors Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Literary Magazine

Fresh Ink, NVCC’s literary journal, publishes the selected literary and artistic works of students and community members. It is an annual publication with a review board of NVCC faculty, alumni and students. The magazine publishes a call for literary contributions of poems, short stories and art to be submitted for board review prior to each annual edition.

Connecticut is receiving a seven-year, $25.8 million Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Naugatuck Valley Community College is one of three Connecticut community colleges collaborating with local public schools to implement the program.

NVCC Hosted Annual College Goal Sunday for All Area Students

The prospect of applying for financial aid can seem overwhelming. To help students and their parents with the process, NVCC hosted College Goal Sunday, an annual event that supports students in the process of filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  On Sunday, October 6 at 1:00 pm in Technology Hall on the Waterbury campus of NVCC, 49 students and families attended the free program and completed their FAFSA along with their family members.

The Power of Networking: NVCC Alumni Gets Jump Start on Political Career Thanks to NVCC Psychology Professor

NVCC alumni Dorian Lockett beams from ear-to-ear when he thinks about the NVCC Professor who served as a mentor and, “took an extra step to truly engage with the student.” It’s thanks to Psychology Professor Lawrence Venuk that Lockett got his introduction and interest in politics. He recalls that Venuk put his name in for the Connecticut’s Legislative Internship program and nominated him for the Christopher Love Award, a scholarship that commemorates a fallen Waterbury-area social activist. Lockett says that because of his internship, he was introduced to J. Brendan Sharkey, former Speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives, and Majority Leader.
