The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $57,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.

NVCC CEO Lisa Dresdner, Ph.D. participated in the education panel of the Leadership Greater Waterbury, Education Class Day. In response to questions about how NVCC managed the changes with COVID, Dr. Dresdner spoke about how the entire college came together quickly to shift to a “virtual campus” with instructional methods and support services that met the students’ needs and academic requirements.

Fourth Annual 5K Benefits Student Food Pantry    Danbury Campus Pantry Providing Snacks and Take-home Chili 

 Community members, students, faculty, and staff were invited to lace up their sneakers on Sunday, March 28 to run and walk in support of the NVCC Student Food Pantry. The 4th annual Run/Walk was a virtual event. Supporters ran or walked on their own to support the cause.

The Terpsichorean Dance Ensemble at NVCC closed the fall semester with a performance to showcase their accomplishments and celebrate the holiday season with dance, music, and song. Sasha Bratt, Assistant Professor of Theater and interim advisor to the Terps, said that the production was choreographed, danced, filmed, and edited by the Terpsichorean Dance Ensemble.

Naugatuck Valley Community College, in collaboration with the NVCC Foundation, hosted a college-wide, virtual Diversity, Equity and Inclusion workshop led by Amer F. Ahmed, Ed.D.  As Interim CEO Lisa Dresdner, Ph.D., explains, “the workshop builds on NVCC's efforts to work together toward inclusive and equitable practices. Through these kinds of opportunities, we strive to meet our goals to close the equity gap and create a safe, inviting environment for all to engage in learning and where all feel they belong.”

Naugatuck Valley Community College NVision Student Writes an Inspiring Success Story

Pedro Arias Matos is an NVCC NViSION Scholar who graduated this January with an Associate of Arts (A.A.) in Computer Science Studies with a 4.0 GPA. Pedro started at NVCC in ESL courses in the fall of 2017, and by the fall of 2020, he was accepted to the Computer Science Honors program at Central Connecticut State University. He was also selected for a National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded scholarship program. (https://www.ccsu.edu/csmp/).
