Pledge to Advance Connecticut (PACT) supports Connecticut residents who are first-time college students and who enroll in community college this fall 2021 semester full-time. The program allows students who qualify to earn a degree or qualifying certificate without taking on debt.

NVCC celebrated commencement for the Class of 2021 with a live presentation of degrees and certificates in the Mainstage Theater on the Waterbury campus. To accommodate the class of 2021, the event was hosted on Wednesday, May 26 for the Liberal Arts/Behavioral & Social Sciences (LABSS) Division, and on Thursday, May 27 for Allied Health & Nursing, Business, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Divisions.

Four NVCC freshman nursing students, Jael Aboagye, Tara East, Annastasia Mkhize, and Kerry Rowan attended the National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA) annual conference where they successfully submitted a resolution that advocated for nursing students to be designated as essential workers in light of the existing nursing shortage exacerbated by the COVID epidemic.

The United Way of Greater Waterbury hosted its 34th Annual Celebration and Awards in a free virtual event on Thursday, April 29, 2021. This year the agency recognized Naugatuck Valley Community College Professor of Legal Studies, Kathy Taylor, J.D. with the United Way Organized Labor Community Service Award.

College Foundation Reports an Increase in Endowed Scholarships Establishes Long-Term Support for Students
The fundraising efforts of Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Associate Dean of Development, Angela Chapman, and the NVCC Foundation have resulted in an increase of scholarships and awards to students from 115 in 2019 to 203 in 2020.

Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., NVCC President Emerita, established the Cocco De Filippis Family Endowed Scholarship to support students from all disciplines who are enrolled in the college, regardless of financial aid and immigration status.

Governor Ned Lamont held a press conference at NVCC on April 23 to announce key initiatives as part of his American Rescue Plan Act Proposal. Governor Lamont outlined his proposal for how Connecticut should invest the federal COVID-19 recovery aid it is receiving from the American Rescue Plan Act.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is an annual event that offers free tax help to people who generally make $57,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.
