Five Goals of Strategic Plan

Goal One:
At NVCC, Students Achieve Their Goals.

Ensuring student success is the heart of what we do. And, it is complicated because it means different things to different students, depending on why he or she comes to NVCC: whether to secure a job, improve employment credentials, or to transfer and continue with education.

Goal Two:
NVCC Faculty and Staff Make a Difference

Cultivating the academic gravitas, administrative effectiveness, student engagement, and community involvement of our faculty and staff makes NVCC a stronger institution.

Goal Three:
NVCC Programs Meet And Beat Academic And Industry Standards.

In higher education, it is not enough to have good programs. Colleges increasingly must demonstrate their competitive advantage to students, faculty and staff, potential employers, and community partners. That means being better at demonstrating value—as higher education providers helping students pursue their career dreams while offering very practical supports that facilitate their transfer and employment.

Goal Four:
NVCC is an engine of change within Waterbury, Danbury, and the broader community.

NVCC’s mission is grounded in its relationship with its service region—the big cities and small towns that surround it. When it leads or collaborates with its communities on issues from access to higher education to workforce development and employment growth, NVCC acts as a powerful force for regional transformation.

Goal Five:
NVCC Is An Effective, Performance-Based Institution.

NVCC embraces the higher education movement to become better at demonstrating effectiveness and performance, especially as it relates to student success.

NVCC’s Nursing & Respiratory Therapists Classes of 2019: More than 100 Strong

More than 100 soon-to-be graduates of two of NVCC’s Allied Health programs participated in the time-honored pinning ceremony tradition. Both ceremonies were held on NVCC’s Mainstage Theater with proud family members, friends, significant others, faculty, staff, and fellow students rallying around the students to cheer them on as they all reached the finish line of two rigorous academic programs. Thirteen students in the Associate of Science Respiratory Care program held their ceremony on May 16.

“As you know this is a year of significant achievements for you all.  You have earned fine credentials and have chosen to undertake the meaningful journey of service to help others. You are receiving your pin today, a symbol of your commitment to a meaningful profession,” said NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D.

At the May 22 nursing pinning ceremony, President De Filippis praised the faculty and students for the significant achievements of the program. “This is the number one community college nursing program in the state of Connecticut,” she said citing the RegisteredNursing.org ranking the program received putting it among the top four programs in the state.

“Lead and advocate for yourself, for your patients and for your communities,” guest speaker Kimberly Sandor, Executive Director of CT Nurses Association urged the 112 graduates in her keynote.

The soon-to-be respiratory and nursing graduates then crossed the stage as members of the faculty presented their pins and posed for pictures.

With increasingly complex health care needs and an aging population, the demand for highly-qualified and skilled nurses and respiratory therapists to join the workforce continues to increase. NVCC offers new students and those seeking a career change top-ranked academic programs in both registered nursing and respiratory therapy. Graduates are eligible for employment in a variety of health care settings.  For more information on both programs, visit: nv.edu/nurse and nv.edu/respiratory.
