Five Goals of Strategic Plan

Goal One:
At NVCC, Students Achieve Their Goals.

Ensuring student success is the heart of what we do. And, it is complicated because it means different things to different students, depending on why he or she comes to NVCC: whether to secure a job, improve employment credentials, or to transfer and continue with education.

Goal Two:
NVCC Faculty and Staff Make a Difference

Cultivating the academic gravitas, administrative effectiveness, student engagement, and community involvement of our faculty and staff makes NVCC a stronger institution.

Goal Three:
NVCC Programs Meet And Beat Academic And Industry Standards.

In higher education, it is not enough to have good programs. Colleges increasingly must demonstrate their competitive advantage to students, faculty and staff, potential employers, and community partners. That means being better at demonstrating value—as higher education providers helping students pursue their career dreams while offering very practical supports that facilitate their transfer and employment.

Goal Four:
NVCC is an engine of change within Waterbury, Danbury, and the broader community.

NVCC’s mission is grounded in its relationship with its service region—the big cities and small towns that surround it. When it leads or collaborates with its communities on issues from access to higher education to workforce development and employment growth, NVCC acts as a powerful force for regional transformation.

Goal Five:
NVCC Is An Effective, Performance-Based Institution.

NVCC embraces the higher education movement to become better at demonstrating effectiveness and performance, especially as it relates to student success.

NVCC Hosts Second Annual Donor Appreciation Reception

NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., and the College’s Foundation Board of Directors hosted a well-attended Donor Appreciation reception on the evening of December 12. The event was held in the Saint Mary’s Hospital and Waterbury Hospital Community Room in Founders Hall. Attendees enjoyed musical entertainment by Gil Harel, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Music. Charles E. Pagano Jr., Vice Chair of the Foundation emceed the event.

"I'm pleased to say we are growing and becoming a more visible presence in the community," said Martha Bernstein, Chair of NVCC's Foundation. "It's very gratifying to see people who work so hard to give the students the education that they very well deserve," she continued, as she addressed faculty and staff at the College. I learn every day out in the community how many community leaders have been educated at this institution. It's really an important part of what goes on in this part of Connecticut."

"It is good to take time to celebrate being part of communities of purpose, dedicated to change the future of Connecticut by providing access and quality to our most vulnerable populations in the form of scholarships, support for our food pantry, jobs on campus, support of multiple cultural activities on campus and so much more," said President De Filippis.

Participants heard from Marlon Bramwell, a Computer Information Systems student at NVCC. Thanks to the generosity of donors, Bramwell holds a part-time position in the IT Department as part of the College's Jobs on Campus Program. The skills he is learning on the job, he said, are valuable and will help him launch his career upon graduation.

With a 49-year history of supporting the college's strategic initiatives through fundraising and community outreach, the NVCC Foundation supports the needs of the college through facilitating student scholarships, capital improvements, college programs, and student emergencies. The financial needs of the college cannot be met through tuition and state support alone; NVCC works with the community and businesses to ensure its students have an opportunity to succeed in today's workforce.
