Five Goals of Strategic Plan

Goal One:
At NVCC, Students Achieve Their Goals.

Ensuring student success is the heart of what we do. And, it is complicated because it means different things to different students, depending on why he or she comes to NVCC: whether to secure a job, improve employment credentials, or to transfer and continue with education.

Goal Two:
NVCC Faculty and Staff Make a Difference

Cultivating the academic gravitas, administrative effectiveness, student engagement, and community involvement of our faculty and staff makes NVCC a stronger institution.

Goal Three:
NVCC Programs Meet And Beat Academic And Industry Standards.

In higher education, it is not enough to have good programs. Colleges increasingly must demonstrate their competitive advantage to students, faculty and staff, potential employers, and community partners. That means being better at demonstrating value—as higher education providers helping students pursue their career dreams while offering very practical supports that facilitate their transfer and employment.

Goal Four:
NVCC is an engine of change within Waterbury, Danbury, and the broader community.

NVCC’s mission is grounded in its relationship with its service region—the big cities and small towns that surround it. When it leads or collaborates with its communities on issues from access to higher education to workforce development and employment growth, NVCC acts as a powerful force for regional transformation.

Goal Five:
NVCC Is An Effective, Performance-Based Institution.

NVCC embraces the higher education movement to become better at demonstrating effectiveness and performance, especially as it relates to student success.

Nursing Explorer Ranks NVCC's Nursing Program in Connecticut's Top Ten

The Nursing Program at Naugatuck Valley Community College ranked second in the top ten nursing programs in Connecticut by Nursing Explorer, a research organization that gathers and analyzes a vast amount of public data on all universities, colleges, and vocational schools that provide nursing programs from the following sources:

The criteria for evaluation are based on objective accreditation metrics, including data from over 3,000 nursing schools, from which 1,721 were ranked across 45 states. Their ranking formula uses the NCLEX pass rate and net-price as its parameters. The formula also gives a 70% weight to NCLEX pass rate and 30% weight to net-price. The result of the calculation is a score between 1 and 100 that reflects the quality of education offered at the school and affordability. If a school has a high NCLEX pass rate and low tuition (or provides a sizeable financial aid), then its rank will be higher. According to their best-value RN programs rankings list, NVCC is placed at the #2 spot out of 21 programs in Connecticut.

Every year Nursing Explorer makes this information available to students as a searchable database.

NursingExplorer.com is a place for prospective students to research nursing schools and the programs they provide, using data such as campus details, admission requirements, programs offered, number of students who graduated with a nursing degree last year, categorized by degree type and gender, NCLEX pass rate history for the past seven years, tuition, financial aid, and fulltime or part-time status of students.

Dr. Carol Gabriele, Associate Dean for Health Sciences & Director of Nursing commented on the rating.  “The nursing program at NVCC has consistently been recognized for achieving results that are above state and national standards. These high standards are reflected in the performance of our graduates. ”

Similar trends are consistent across all health programs at NVCC including Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care, and Physical Therapy Assistant programs.
