Naugatuck Valley Community College Music Department Brings Back Iconic Coffeehouse Showcase
The Music Department at NVCC announced the return of their iconic Coffeehouse in virtual mode on March 11, 2021 at 6 pm.  The performance was live- streamed free of charge, from the Theater Department's Youtube page. https://bit.ly/35h1dvB

Music Professor Gil Harel commented on the grand return. “The highly successful NVCC Coffeehouse Showcase series returned this March, and we couldn't be more excited about it. At a time when many in the arts are struggling to find venues and opportunities for sharing their talents and hard work, the music program at the College has been buzzing with activity all semester.  The return of the Coffeehouse also marked an important watershed for us as we embraced new modes of presentation. Though the format was different, the indomitable spirit of our students remained as strong as ever.”  In addition our musical theater production of PIPPIN also moved forward with great momentum, and a small but determined chorale made tremendous progress during our regular meetings to our opening night on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 7:30 pm, when the curtain rose on schedule for the musical comedy.  www.showtix4u.com/events/NVCC

Sponsored by the Music Society Student Government Association (SGA) club, the Coffeehouse allowed students a unique opportunity to perform the repertoire of their choosing in an atmosphere that was both fun and serious. Harel explained. “This year, our show was fundamentally different, with no live audience permitted on campus. Instead, we teamed up with Digital Arts Technology (DAT) and theater tech personnel to broadcast the show in real time. Audience members, watched from the comfort of home, had the opportunity to see and hear students tackling difficult songs representing different genres and idioms. Performances included musical theater, with songs from shows such as ‘Wicked’ and others were featured. Students channeled their inner pop-diva with songs by Mariah Carey and other famous crooners.”

All were invited to stream the show from the comfort of their homes.
