First Annual Hospitality Management Alumni BBQ and Reunion a Sweeping Success
The Hospitality Management Department held its first-ever Alumni Reunion on April 4th, at the suggestion of its Service Management instructor, Heather Torres. The department envisioned a relaxed atmosphere, where friends could gather for a fun evening. Hors d’oeuvres and BBQ were prepared by the Food Production class, and served by the Service class. Each attendee received a specially-embroidered hat as a memento. The reunion brought together 27 former students, plus a few spouses and children. They ranged from attending class of 1984, 1993 and all the years up to May of 2018. The event was possible, in part, from the collaborative efforts of generous adjunct instructors: Heather Torres, Kirk Palladino, Peter Cisek and fabulous Educational Assistants Barbara Sears and Kate Costello. Several current faculty attended to support efforts including Linda Barone, Dawn Tedesco, and Elma Solomon. The NVCC Foundation and Office of College Marketing provided much guidance and muscle in preparing the invitations, emailing students, preparing a slideshow that followed a history on campus from the temporary buildings to the Greek Church to Founders Hall to the program's current and final home in Technology Hall, as well as handling the administrative duties during the event and allowing the program coordinator to act as hostess.

Following the event, a survey went out to alums and all respondents commented favorably on their experiences here at NVCC. When asked if they could go back in time and do it all over again, the response was a resounding “YES”.  Four of the program's former students have taught or are teaching at NVCC. Many have continued their education. Several hold master’s degrees, and are employed in a variety of occupations, including teaching, health care administration, cooking, management, and more.
